TiE-NJ is pleased to launch the inaugural event of our newest SIG that will focus on Healthcare and Life Sciences (HLS). The HLS SIG will be chaired by Dr. V. “Bala” Balasubramanian, Senior Vice President and Head of Industry Solutions Group for Healthcare and Life Sciences, Orion Innovation.

The event will feature a distinguished panel of experts to share their insights about the transformation of the healthcare industry through digital health technologies.  

This panel will focus on the following key topics and cover multiple perspectives - big pharma, provider, payor, and venture funding:
  • What are Digital Health Technologies (DHT)?  What are the typical applications and use cases?
  • How are DHT impacting patient outcomes? What areas of the healthcare system are being transformed?
  • What are the implications for pharma, providers, and payors with the advent of DHT?
  • What is the market opportunity for DHT?  What are some of the startups focused on? What areas are being funded?  What is the support ecosystem for startups?
  •  What are the payment models for DHT?  How do companies overcome reimbursement challenges or regulatory hurdles?
  • What does the future hold for DHT in the next 3 to 5 years?

Dr. V. “Bala” Balasubramanian, Ph.D., MBA, Senior Vice President and Healthcare and Life Sciences, Industry Solutions Group, Orion Innovation
Bala heads the Industry Solutions Group for Healthcare and Life Sciences (HLS) at Orion. Bala is responsible envisioning and delivering on solutions and services to further the digital transformation initiatives of HLS clients.
Prior to Orion, Bala was President and CEO of Cabeus (which was acquired by Orion in 2019), a niche products and services firm for Life Sciences. He is a recipient of the Service Excellence Award for 2023 by the Drug Information Association for his thought leadership and contributions to the Life Sciences industry. He is also an Industrial Advisory Board Member for the Rutgers Master’s in Business and Science (MBS) program and Stillman School of Business, Seton Hall University.
Bala has his Ph.D. and MBA from Rutgers University, M.S. in Computer Science from NJIT and B.S. in Electronics Engineering from India.

Siva Nadarajah, Co-Founder and President, JOGO Health

Siva is the President and co-founder of JOGO Health, a Digital Therapeutics and virtual care company focused on chronic pain and neuromuscular conditions.  Siva has over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

His previous venture, Semantelli, an AI-based drug/vaccine safety detection platform - currently used by Pfizer and Moderna to monitor safety of their vaccines - was acquired by IQVIA, the world's leading clinical research organization.  Siva has two US patents in AI in healthcare.

Jim Gunton, Managing Partner, Tech Council Ventures

Mr. Gunton has invested in privately held growth technology companies for more than 25 years. He is a co-founder of the early-stage venture funds Tech Council Ventures I and II, with $130 million assets under management. Tech Council Ventures targets tech-centric growth companies across all industries headquartered in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Previously Mr. Gunton was a principal at Edison Partners and a manager at Oracle Corporation in the Silicon Valley. He also served as a Governor of the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies.

Jim earned a BS from Stanford University and an MBA with distinction from Duke University.

Hima Kher, MBA, Senior Director, Business Development – Digital Health, Bristol Myers Squibb

Hima Kher is Senior Director, Business Development Digital Health within the Strategy and Business Development organization at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS). In this role, Hima enables Digital Strategy and Digital Health capabilities through business development transactions, including strategic partnerships, research collaborations and investments related to digital health. In a previous role at BMS few years ago, Hima was an early leader in establishing digital health strategy, partnerships, and capabilities for the organization.  She held a similar role at JNJ Innovation, driving significant digital innovation across the organization. Prior to J&J, Hima was Chief Technology Officer of Tech Care for All, a social impact digital health start-up, where she implemented digital health technologies and programs in Sub-Saharan Africa and India.  

She is an authentic and passionate leader with a genuine commitment to improving patient outcomes, inclusion and health equity.  Hima resides in Plainsboro, NJ with her spouse and two children. 

Alphan Kirayoglu, VP, Data Science, Thyme Care

Alphan Kirayoglu is the Vice President of Data Science at Thyme Care, a digital health company that uses tech-enabled navigation to improve the quality of life for people diagnosed with cancer by coordinating personalized, clinically integrated care. Alphan and his team are responsible for leveraging data to help deliver the right intervention at the right time to every Thyme Care member. They also analyze data at the population level to measure the success of Thyme Care’s interventions and make sure they are improving outcomes from the perspective of providers and health plans. 

Prior to Thyme Care, Alphan was responsible for all engineering-related functions at Galileo Health, including mobile and web application development, infrastructure, and security. Before that, as a Staff Data Insights Engineer at OncoTrials, Alphan helped clinical research teams to identify patients for clinical trials and manage their workflows efficiently.
