DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES: YOUR PATH TO THE FUTURE

TUESDAY, MAY 7, 2019, PINSTRIPES, NORTH BETHESDA, MD

Overview: Augmenting a successful track record of delivering four previous highly-rated Summits, the Wharton School Club of DC will host the 2019 Wharton DC Innovation Summit: Disruptive Technologies – Your Path to the Future. This full-day conference, open to the public, features two keynote speakers and a General Session:

  • Seth Goldman, the Co-Founder and TeaEO Emeritus of Honest Tea and Executive Chair of Beyond Meat (Opening/Breakfast) speaks on the “Future of Food”

  • General Session Panel explores major disruptors and trends (during Luncheon);

  • David Morey, Chairman & CEO, DMG Global, discusses Creating Business Magic: How the Power of

Magic Can Inspire, Innovate and Revolutionize Your Business (Closing, before Reception) The 2019 Summit will also have 12 panels/workshops in 4 intervening breakout sessions in three tracks:

  • Track 1: Disruptive Technologies, e.g., AI, Blockchain, 5G, Cyber, Internet of Things (IoT)

  • Track 2: Funding, e.g., PitchMasters, VC/Angel, Tokens, Alternatives (SBA, Banks, tax incentives)

  • Track 3: The Future of: Cities, Work, Healthcare and Food

The schedule includes many breaks and a closing reception, with a bowling option, giving attendees the opportunity to network with one another and sponsors. A pre-Summit event may be added if a sponsor is identified to further enhance connections.

Venue: For its 5th Summit, the Club has selected a unique, non-traditional venue, Pinstripes North Bethesda. Pinstripes’ novel concept of offering “people an alternative way to connect with others and have fun” conforms with the Club’s vision for the 2019 Summit:

    • to inspire and educate attendees (whether they be innovators, entrepreneurs or professionals)

    • and to connect them to thought-leaders, resources and one another, while also having fun!

Pinstripes North Bethesda combines a ballroom (for meetings) with bowling, bocce and a bistro. It is located at Pike & Rose, a mixed-use neighborhood, with ample parking and just a short walk from the White Flint Metro Station. Pike & Rose is within the new, evolving Pike District of Montgomery County, Maryland. This community exemplifies one of the Summit’s topics, the “Future of Cities,” as it seeks to disrupt the way residents live, play and work by creating a sustainable, walkable urban space with varied housing, employment, retail, dining and entertainment options.

Record of Success: The 2019 Innovation Summit builds upon four successful past summits, each of which received rave reviews from speakers, attendees and sponsors. Typical reviews:

      • “The Summit is fantastic. I’ve had a lot of great conversations with individuals here. There are many new perspectives, innovative ideas, and great opportunities to collaborate. We’ve had numerous informal sessions with much dialogue.” – Ruth Ann Hudson, IBM

      • “What’s exciting about the Summit is that we have entrepreneurs and innovators coming together in the Nation’s Capital, finding ways entrepreneurs and innovators can help the big problems over the next decade. I’m excited about being here because the talent gathered here can together be part of the solution for our Nation’s ills.” – Aneesh Chopra, first White House Chief Technology Officer

The four previous Innovation Summits gathered in the Washington, D.C. area – and allowed attendees to meet - investors, innovators in industry and government, policy makers, entrepreneurs, academic leaders (from Wharton, UPenn, Johns Hopkins and other top schools) and others whose common goal has been to empower private and public innovators to spur business, economic and job growth in the U.S. and abroad. Prior Summits cumulatively had over 1,400 attendees representing 350+ companies (from startups to Fortune 500 companies) and featured 250+ speakers in over 125 sessions. Prominent keynote speakers at Summits included:

  • Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn, “Fathers of the Internet”

  • Aneesh Chopra, Hunch Analytics, first White House Chief Technology Officer

  • Susan Dentzer, President & CEO, Network for Excellence in Health Innovation (NEHI)

  • David Trone, Co-Owner of Total Wine & More, U.S. Congressman

  • Reggie Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of Cvent

  • Michael Chasen, co-Founder and former CEO of Blackboard, Inc.
