This event will no doubt be fascinating to hear for our SIG members. Zoom and virtual driven learning approaches are in constant evolution and a fully satisfactory model has not been arrived at yet. Prior to that, the efficacy of 1 person delivering a class to many students is being questioned intensely. What exactly are the issues and where do the answers come from ?

Looking at the brain, how it works, what drives learning and retention. And what educators need to do about this.


Speakers Profiles:

Prof Jamshed Bharucha
[Governing Council at Sai University
Former President, Cooper Union, Distinguished Fellow Dartmouth College and Provost/ SVP Tufts University]

Jamshed Bharucha is a cognitive neuroscientist who has served in top leadership roles in higher education. His research has focused on music and the brain. His current interest is in taking findings from research into pedagogy, specifically how to teach and how do students learn. 

He has served as Distinguished Fellow and Research Professor at Dartmouth College, where his research and teaching were focused on education data science. He is President Emeritus of Cooper Union, a college located in Manhattan, New York City, having served as the 12th President of Cooper Union from July 2011 through June 2015.

Prior to becoming President of Cooper Union, Bharucha was Provost and Senior Vice President[9] of Tufts University and Professor in the Departments of Psychology, Music and in the Medical School's Department of Neuroscience. Prior to Tufts he was the John Wentworth Professor of Psychological & Brain Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Dartmouth College. His research is in cognitive psychology and neuroscience, focusing on the cognitive and neural basis of the perception of music. He was editor of the interdisciplinary journal Music Perception] and was a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.

Tariq Khan

Tariq Khan is an angel investor and a specialist in financing start-ups at the earliest stages of their launch. He co-founded Games 24x7 Inc which launched the largest on-line games company in India. His other investments include Buddi-Health, Vectorly, Fitbark, Resolute Innovation and Baby Destination. He is Past President of the New York Chapter of TiE, the largest mentoring organization for entrepreneurship. Currently he is serving a two year term on the TiE Global Board of Trustees.

Previously he worked for twenty years in finance, with major banks and financial institutions in most of the support and operational functions including settlements, finance, risk management, compliance and technology. Main companies he has worked for include Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers, GM Asset Management, Citigroup Private Bank, Natwest, Lloyds Bank and Banca Nazionale del Lavoro.

In addition, Mr Khan has twenty years experience working in industrial and commercial organizations, from large Fortune 500 companies, to small, family owned enterprises. Major companies he has worked for include CNA Insurance, L’Oreal, Mitsui & Co USA, Fiat SpA, Filippo Fochi Spa, Hunter Douglas NV, Sun Chemicals, Colgate Palmolive, Ely Lily, Reuters, ENI and IBM.

Mr Khan grew up in Rome, Italy and after four decades in Europe moved to the US in 2000 where he has settled in the New York City vicinity.
