THE CEO OF ARCESIUM LLC, GAURAV SURI SHARES THE RATIONALE, CHALLENGES, AND LESSONS LEARNT IN THE CORPORATE SPIN-OUT OF A TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS

Topic: The corporate spin-out of a technology business: Rationale, Challenges, and Lessons Learnt.

Overview: Gaurav Suri is the CEO of Arcesium, a post-trade technology and professional services firm headquartered in New York. Building on a platform developed and tested by one of the world's leading hedge funds, the D. E. Shaw group, Gaurav launched Arcesium as an independent company in 2015. Under Gaurav’s leadership, Arcesium has grown to support more than $65 billion in assets from a number of leading hedge funds, with a staff of over 700 software engineering, accounting, operations, and treasury professionals.

Gaurav will talk about multi-year program that led to the build out D. E. Shaw’s technology platform, the experiences along the way that sowed the seeds for Arcesium, the year long process that gave birth to Arcesium, and the ups and downs of the journey since then.  Launching a spin-out from a large company gave the business a lot of tailwinds, but also has presented some very unique challenges that a typical startup does not face.
