Dr. Khumawala founded Stimulating Urban Renewal through Entrepreneurship (SURE) in 2012 with a mission to enable economic stimulation by serving aspiring local entrepreneurs from underserved communities and Veterans in the Houston area. The SURE™ Program provides FREE financial and business education, ongoing business consulting and prepares entrepreneurs to access capital.. Students working for a grade serve as consultants to four entrepreneurs who have a concrete business idea, a demonstrated commitment and are either from or willing to serve a community in need of investment. Faculty and business experts serve as supervisors and mentors. SURE has trained more than 350 students and 1,200 entrepreneurs who are operating 250 businesses.
