SMEs account for 45 per cent of total industry output and 40 per cent of total exports. Though SMEs have huge opportunity for growth in the country, It has been seen that most of them do not scale-up, and keep addressing only a smaller section. There are issues like access to credit, only 10 per cent of SMEs have access to the INR 80 lakh-crore credits available. Another issue is that most grapple with is that they do not equip themselves to scale up, and are not competitive enough. Lack of collateral security and poor financials also affect an enterprise’s ability to access banking and funding. SMEs are unable to take advantage of the many subsidy schemes, introduced by the Centre and State governments, to the fullest. The event is planned to discuss challenges in policy, taxation and finance along with marketing and usage of digital tools to help entrepreneurs take better decisions to be able to grow.
