How do you create a multi-billion dollar market category, take on deeply entrenched incumbents and establish leadership in that category? For Kumar Ramachandran, it started with identifying technology transitions that could deliver 100X customer value compared to legacy solutions. But for David to disrupt the Goliaths that dominated the market, it was also necessary to disrupt the business models and Go-To-Market (GTM) process. Kumar co-founded CloudGenix in 2013 and created the Software-defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) market. CloudGenix had a vision of delivering 10X better networks at one-tenth the cost of legacy models. Going from 10 slides on a PowerPoint to becoming the solution that the largest banks, retailers, manufacturers, governments, and hi-tech organizations rely on was a rollicking roller-coaster of a journey. CloudGenix was successfully acquired by Palo Alto Networks in April 2020 for USD $420 Million and was probably one of the first acquisitions to be completed over a Zoom call!

About Kumar Ramchandran

Kumar is currently Senior-Vice President at Palo Alto Networks. Prior to this, he co-founded CloudGenix in March 2013 and was its Chief Executive Officer. Prior to founding CloudGenix, Kumar held leadership roles in Product Management and Marketing for the multi-billion-dollar branch routing and WAN optimization businesses at Cisco. Prior to Cisco, he managed applications and infrastructure for large companies such as Citibank and Providian Financial. Kumar holds an MBA from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and a Master's in Computer Science from the University of Bombay.
