Please join us for the TiE Energy panel on the evening of March 28th.   Our three panelists are senior executive leaders in the oil & gas industry, from an oil & gas company, and integrated oil services company, and a venture capital firm specializing in the energy sector.   They will discuss the macroeconomics of energy supply and demand, covering topics such as the prognosis for shale and deepwater, trends in technology and innovation and opportunities for entrepreneurs in the energy sector.

Panelists Bios

Jim Sledzik is Managing Director for Energy Ventures-U.S.LLC (SAEV-US), heading its North America practice.  Aramco’s corporate venture capital fund invests globally in early-stage and high-growth technology companies of strategic importance to the company.   With more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including 10 years in venture capital and private equity investing, Jim joined Aramco in October 2018.  He is responsible for overseeing existing investments and growing SAEV’s investment portfolio.   Prior to Aramco, Sledzik served as Managing Director at Hall Labs, known for innovation in tackling some of the world’s most challenging problems, ranging from sustainability to personal transportation.  He provided corporate governance and strategic direction for companies incubated within Hall Labs, assisting with product development, patents and monetizing game-changing technologies in the world’s largest markets.   Sledzik served as Senior Partner and President of North America for EV Private Equity from 2008 to 2017, managing five funds targeting technology-driven, high-growth potential companies in the upstream oil and gas sector.   His career spans a wide range of marketing and technology roles including Global Marketing & New Technology Director and Vice President of Multi Client Services for geophysical services company WesternGeco and Global Account Director for oil and gas technology provider Schlumberger.    Jim earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor’s of science in geosciences from Pennsylvania State University.  He is a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and serves on the advisory board for the Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship at Rice University.     Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (SAEV) U.S. LLC is wholly-owned by Aramco Services Company, the U.S.-based subsidiary of Saudi Aramco.  

Hossam Elbadawy is the Managing Director of SCF Ventures and Technology Partner at SCF Partners. Prior to joining SCF, Hossam founded O&G Technologies, a Houston based incubator focused on the oil and gas industry. He has over 24 years’ experience in the energy sector, technology development, and commercialization. Hossam has served as Senior Operating Partner at Lime Rock Partners and as CEO of Tercel Oilfield Products. Prior to these roles, Hossam spent nearly 17 years at Schlumberger where he served as Vice President of Manufacturing as well as managed the company’s leading-edge Rosharon Technology Center and the Houston Product Center. Hossam received an MBA and a Masters in Engineering Management from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ain Shams University.

Mr. JF. Poupeau leads Schlumberger’s Corporate Engagement initiatives including corporate planning, development, engagement, global stewardship and communications functions.  Over the last four years he has also led the company’s Global Transformation program. Previously he served as President, Drilling Group (2010-2012); President, Drilling & Measurements (2007-2010); Vice President, Communications & Investor Relations (2006-2007), and Vice President Technologies and Product Marketing (2004-2006).   Mr. Poupeau joined Schlumberger in 1985 as a wireline field engineer in the Gulf of Mexico.  He has held operational and management leadership positions in North America, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria, France and China.   He holds a B.S. degree in geology and a M.S. degree in petroleum engineering from Tulane University.  He serves on the Tulane University School of Science and Engineering Advisory Board, is a member of SPE and SPWLA and serves on the Boards of The Texas French Alliance for the Arts, American Heart Association SouthWest Affiliate, United Way of Greater Houston, Greater Houston Partnership and the Well Control Institute.

Vasu Guruswamy  joined CSL in Jan 2018 as Managing Director of Technology. He brings a very unique combination of deep domain experience in oil & gas technology and digital expertise via his experience in software & services and expertise in Information Technology (“IT”).

Vasu’s 33-year Schlumberger career spanned a wide range of positions from field operations, petrophysics, product development, global IT operations, and business line operations. His last position in Schlumberger was Vice President, Global Services in the Software Information Solutions division, based in London. He was instrumental in building the very successful captive SW development center for Schlumberger in Pune, India. 

He has served on the board of Energistics, the global organization defining data transfer standards for the Oil & Gas industry. He was previously on the advisory board of the European Union-sponsored Optique project focused on big data solutions in the upstream oil and gas industry. He was one of the active sponsors in setting up SIRIUS, a Norwegian center for Research-driven innovation that addresses the problems of scalable data access in oil & gas industry.

He is currently on several boards of CSL companies and also as advisor to several companies specializing in applying big data analytical approach to Oil & Gas industries. He is also a mentor and angel investor in several technology-focused firms.

He and some like-minded investors are building a sustainable social impact model in India, where returns from investments in for-profit concerns fund non-profit social impact companies.  

Vasu has a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras, India and an MS from RPI, NY, USA.
