Unquestionably at the academic pinnacle of oncology in India, Dr Vijay Anand Reddy is an inspirational figure in medical circles.

Dr Reddy has had an illustrious career. Having trained in reputed Cancer Institute’s across the globe and being awarded prestigious awards, has been a guest faculty for over five hundred CME programmes and over sixty publications spanning a range of topics and speaks volumes about his scholarship.

Empathetic Pragmatism
Cure, however, is only one facet of VAR that epitomises his medical skills; Care is his significant other - for those who can’t afford treatment, and for those who are cured but need to be rehabilitated back into active life and deep rooted care for those who are on the last lap of life. His biggest initiative in this regard is the CURE Foundation (Cancer Care Units, Research and Educational Foundation) in the year 2003. The selfless activities of the Cure Foundation has made lives better for scores of people – be it cancer awareness, cancer screening, anti-tobacco campaign etc – where care morphs into crusade. That’s then a full circle – CURE, CARE and CRUCADE – the triple Cs to counter a common enemy – CANCER.

Dr Reddy’s is also one of the directors of Sparsh Hospice and actively involved in giving invaluable support to terminally ill patients, in making their lives as comfortable as possible.

Profession in Sync with Vocation:
The major push towards banning tobacco came from the untiring efforts of Dr Reddy in sensitising the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad - the crusade against tobacco.

Dr Vijay Anand Reddy is an illustrious example of a caregiver and a crusader rising to the pinnacle of academic medical career and social activism, from the crucibles of a modest rural background. Someone the younger generation would be proud to look up to and idolise, and someone whose life and work are worthy of emulation and celebration.
