Member Mixer

Our first event of 2020 is a networking evening wherein TiE members, prominent start-ups & communities, business founders & CEOs, corporate executives, angel investors & VCs, heads of academic institutions & incubators gather and exchange ideas.

It is a platform to share experiences, learning & innovations in entrepreneurship. It provides opportunities for networking with business across the fraternity and is sector agnostic with the main focus on the start-up & entrepreneurial community in the Metro DC.

Guest speaker:  Author John Hillen

We are excited to host John Hillen as he presents his book, "What happens Now?: Reinvent Yourself as a Leader Before Your Business Outruns You", to our members and friends! A business strategist, professor, community leader, and an accomplished business person, John Hillen is a true role model and we can't wait for you to meet him!

About John Hillen

John Hillen is the CEO of EverWatch Solutions, a 400 employee defense technology firm in Northern Virginia.  He is a former Assistant Secretary of State, a decorated combat veteran, and serves on the Boards of several other GovCon companies.   He is a 2 time Fed 100 awardee, a former judge of the annual GovCon awards, and in 2012 his company won the GovCon company of the year award in the large business category.

He is the author of several books, most recently What Happens Now? Reinvent Yourself as a Leader Before Your Business Outruns You, which was recognized as one of the top business books of 2018 by Soundview Executive Book Summaries and several other organizations.  He writes a column on leadership and strategy issues for Washington Technology magazine and Forbes magazine.  From 20013 – 2018 he was the Executive-in-Residence and Professor-of-Practice in the Business School at George Mason University where he taught strategy and leadership.  He was twice voted the Outstanding Professor in the MBA program.

He has been the CEO or COO of several companies in New York City and Northern Virginia, both public and privately held, and a Director or Board Chairman of several others.  He has been named one of the 100 most influential business leaders in the DC area and successfully undertook the first IPO of a local company since 2006 when he took Sotera Defense Solutions public in 2009.  John Hillen graduated from Duke University, holds a Master’s Degree from King’s College London, a doctorate from Oxford, and received his MBA from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell.
