Overview

The UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is looking for India-based technology start-ups to join their inaugural Go Global India programme between October and December 2019. This is a unique opportunity for innovative Indian start-ups using technology to solve local problems, to learn how to build their business to develop global solutions.

Successful start-ups will have the opportunity to improve their business skills; expand their capability; and build links with the UK’s thriving tech sector and UK expertise to take their business to the next level.

Programme Curriculum:

The programme is divided into two parts, a local programme based in Bengaluru India and a UK- based programme.

1)The local programme is a series of 6 workshops which will run in Bengaluru for 3 weeks on Friday (10:00-16:00) and Saturday (10:00-16:00) and will be delivered by UK and local experts, professionals and business executives. This will be followed by a send-off event for the Go Global participants.

Each workshop will be approximately 5-6 hours long and most are intended to be highly practical in nature, meaning participants can act on what they have learned immediately. The workshops will focus on skills and capabilities where the UK and India have a strong competitive advantage including:

  • How to build an impactful start-up presentation deck: A practical session on building a winning pitch deck to be presented to international investors and customers

  • Storytelling and Pitching: This one-day workshop introduces you to the principles of storytelling and the fundamentals of public speaking

  • Consultative sales: This one-day workshop on finding your first 100 customers brings together consultative sales fundamentals and design thinking. In three steps participants will learn how to build relationships with potential customers using intelligent insight, driving conversations through empathy and advanced questioning before closing with consensus

  • Negotiation: This one-day workshop demystifies negotiation fundamentals. Start-ups will practice applying negotiation frameworks, strategies, and tactics to relevant consumer and business case studies. You will leave with a structured approach to tackle negotiations, however transactional or complex

  • Selling to corporates and enterprise in the UK: ­an overview of how British corporates typically work with SMEs.Building a strong user experience (UX): Know how to validate your product assumptions, practice efficient UX design techniques, grow your product, and optimize designs

  • Raising investment­: How to raise from angels and VCs; how to write a business plan investor will read; cashflows and forecast

  • Startups legal mechanics: recap on legal mechanics for start-ups, in addition to common mistakes and problems

2) The UK programme will run for 5 days in early December 2019 and will include advanced training, business development and networking opportunities with the UK’s thriving tech ecosystem as below:

  • Introductory session on the UK’s ecosystem including opportunities, incentives, and schemes for startups to grow and expand.

  • Innovation sessions with corporate incubators and accelerators: Go Global delegates will participate in innovation sessions with leading UK based corporate accelerators and incubators. The goal of these sessions is to expose the delegates to the opportunities and models to partner with corporates for acceleration, piloting, investment and joint venturing with corporates in their home country and in the UK.

  • Meetups and networking opportunities: Each start-up will attend two meetups during the week and engage with the UK’s buzzing startup community.

  • Demo day/ Showcase event: On the last day of the programme, Go Global participants will showcase their startups and what they have achieved to an invited audience, followed by a networking session.

What happens next?

Go Global is only the beginning.

Each of the participants will be expected to act as a champion for the UK-India Tech Hub and pass on their expertise to their communities, as well as future cohorts of Go Global. They will also be invited to participate in other projects led by the hub, who will support them on their scale-up journey.
