Guest Speaker: Kirk Coburn, Investment Director, Shell Ventures

Moderator : Dr. Ram G Shenoy, CEO, The RBR Group

The energy sector has begun 2020 with a state of heightened volatility. The global spread of the Covid-19 virus has created both supply and demand shocks to the global economy, with an accompanying shock to the oil & gas markets. We are going to be hosting a series of webinars on the Energy sector.Hear from our panel of leaders from the energy sector discuss the state of energy macroeconomics in 2020 and the technology/innovation challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Our second webinar on the Energy sector will take place on April 29th, 2 PM. Our panelist is Kirk Coburn.

Kirk is an investment director for Shell Ventures, Shell's corporate Venture Capital fund. Shell Ventures invests and partners with entrepreneurs to bring new technologies and business models to market in order to lower costs, make our existing operations more sustainable, and accelerate the energy transition. Shell Ventures acts as a strategic partner and makes minority investments in select technology companies, including Shell technology spin-outs, and also acts as an LP in some externally managed venture capital funds.

Kirk has over 15 years of experience as a successful serial entrepreneur and over 9 years as a venture capitalist and early-stage angel investor. Prior to Shell, Kirk was the founder and managing director of SURGE Ventures, a mentor-driven accelerator and seed stage venture fund.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr Ram G Shenoy. Ram is a co-founder of several companies based on different technology areas.  He retired after a career in upstream oil & gas, holding a variety of roles around technology development, management and marketing.   He previously was Chief Technology Officer of ConocoPhillips, a large upstream oil & gas operator, and Vice-President of Research for Schlumberger, a large oilfield services company.
