At this event, Prof. Muhammad Yunus will reflect on his entrepreneurial journey, the role of social business and the importance of imagination in creating a poverty-free world. The event will feature discussions on the challenges of, and solutions to, global poverty. It offers a glimpse into the challenges faced by social enterprises around the world, by exploring various facets of social innovation.
Professor Yunus is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, banker, economist and civil-society leader. Widely considered the father of social business and microcredit, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance. Among Professor Yunus’s many national and international honours, he has received all three highest US Civilian awards.
Since 2006, Professor Yunus has focused on spreading and implementing the concept of social business. He has written three books about micro-lending and social business. In 2009, Forbes named Professor Yunus one of its “10 Most Influential Business Gurus.†Fortune magazine has named him “one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our time".
