The pandemic is splintering the world economy. As the Chinese economy slows, some venture capitals see fewer deal opportunities in 2020; its slowest start to the year since 2013, with venture capitalists being more selective in funding.  With the regional economy reopening, there is a greater diversity of capital, by fund structure, geographic-focus, stage and sector expertise in ASEAN. Innovative technologies such as personalised medicine, online education, drone-based solutions are gaining traction and is attracting fund investors’ interest.  Unicorns are often born out of global crises, and will the technology sector birth off the next wave of unicorns as a result of Covid-19?

The panel discussion will discuss the latest regional trends and flow of VC capital as well as the corresponding evolvement of technology start-up industry. Insights will be shed on the opportunities in the ASEAN and Chinese VC market. Panelists will also share their perspectives on the possible regional collaboration that will fuel the next wave of innovation by new breed of entrepreneurs.

•            In a more dynamic world, how can tech companies or start-ups break new grounds for inclusive growth through more innovative fund raising and cross border entrepreneurship?

•            How should companies navigate through “innovation winter” with barriers introduced to talent pool and capital flow?

•            How does pandemic affect the VC fund market globally, especially in the tech scene?
