Agenda: 5G to IoT
5G is a quantum new cellular change coming thru IMT-2020 from 2022 . While heralded as a standard its really a new network operating system replacing the 3GPP circuit switched cellular core with a packet switched network. While 5G has much for high bandwidth, video streaming it has bolted on major features from the great success of LPWAN in IoT. It covers ultra reliable low latency communication (URLLC) , high device density to manage 30,000 per Sq Km is current Smart Cities , new base stations with multiple antennas (some talk of 100+) and beam forming so power is focussed on actual devices rather than scattered all over , giving good reach and low power consumption. This introductory topic using McKinsey article covers the landscape and has pointers to many related concepts.
Organization: IEEE
IEEE bills itself as The world's largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology. It has authored thru IEEE SA on WiFi, 802.15.4 and is playing a significant role in 5G thru the new IEEE 5G steering committee. It also host dedicated 5G World Forum events.
